Enhancing Patient Outcomes through Optometry Co-management in Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS) represents a paradigm shift in the management of glaucoma, offering a spectrum of surgical options that prioritise efficacy while minimising patient invasiveness. This session explores the collaborative approach between optometrists and ophthalmologists in evaluating, educating, and managing patients undergoing MIGS. Discussions will encompass the effect of medication preservatives on the ocular surface, a discussion on the range of MIGS techniques, patient selection criteria, perioperative care, and postoperative considerations. Put yourself in the surgeon’s seat! Our lectures are followed by a hands-on dry lab workshop where participants will be able to insert an i-Stent in a model eye, to gain a practical idea on the incorporation of MIGS in our surgical toolkit. Emphasizing the importance of seamless communication and shared decision-making, this session aims to empower optometrists with the knowledge and tools to actively engage in the comanagement of MIGS, ultimately contributing to enhanced patient care, improved outcomes, and a holistic approach to glaucoma management.
